Directions
The starting point for the New Farm River walk is Wilson Outlook reserve. Wilson Outlook reserve is one of Brisbane’s hidden gems providing dramatic views of the city, Brisbane river and Kangaroo Point.
From the reserve join up with the New Farm Riverwalk and head along the boardwalk in a southerly direction away from Story Bridge. When the Riverwalk path comes to an end you will need to turn right down Griffith St and then right onto Sydney St. This will take you back to the river and past the Sydney St ferry terminal.
From the ferry terminal walk through Merthyr Park. At the end of the Park is the Merthyr Bowls club. Walk around the Bowls club and turn right down Oxlade drive.
At the end of Oxlade drive, turn right down Brunswick St. This will bring you to New Farm Park. New Farm Park is one of Brisbane’s oldest, grandest and largest parks and a popular spot for locals for picnics and sporting. Take the path through the park that hugs the river until you reach the historic Brisbane Powerhouse. The Powerhouse plays host to live arts, weekend farmers markets and moonlight cinema (seasonal). If you need to take a break this is a great spot.
Once you are ready to continue your walk just follow the path that hugs the river in a northwards direction. This will take you along the river through the suburb of Teneriffe. Teneriffe is suburb with an industrial past but now home to a plethora of off beat cafes, organic grocery stores and trendy bars.
The walk ends at Teneriffe ferry terminal. From here you can catch a ferry or bus back to the city.
