Public transport

Catch a bus from the city to Bondi Beach.

Directions

Starting Point – Bondi Beach

The Sydney Bondi to Coogee walk starts at Bondi Beach opposite the the pavilion and next to the graffiti wall. Head along the path to the south end of the beach, which then becomes a rocky coastline. Follow the path that continues in this direction, along Notts Ave past the famous Bondi Icebergs Swimming Club.

Established by lifesavers in 1929, the Bondi Icebergs has some interesting rules, including the fact that all swimmers must compete for three Sunday’s out of every four for at least five years to maintain their membership!

From the icebergs continue south along Notts Ave where the path leads off the road and continues along the rugged coastline. Further along the path is Mackenzie’s Point, which has a lookout providing fantastic views out to sea.

The path continue past Mackenzies Point and around Tamarama Beach.  Because of its deep water, small size and easterly aspect, Tamarama is considered the most dangerous beach in New South Wales. Follow the path around the Tamarama Beach Kiosk and continue down Tamarama Marine Drive.

Further around the coast is Bronte Beach. Continue along the path that winds past Bronte Beach Life Saving Club and Bronte Baths at the southern end of the beach. Bronte Baths is a salt water swimming pool. If you feel like a rest this is a great place to cool off.

From here, continue walking southwards along the coastal path around Calga Place before it veers off and passes Waverley Cemetery. The cemetery has been in operation since 1877 and is owned by the Waverley Council. It is situated right on the coast and its lookout is another vantage point to take in the spectacular views of the Sydney coastline.

From the cemetery the path continues past the Clovelly Bowling Club before winding round to Clovelly Beach. Follow the coastal path around Gordon’s Bay and it will take you to the Bali Memorial situated on the northern side of Coogee Beach. The memorial commemorates the victims of the 2002 Bali Bombings, including 20 victims who were residents of Coogee and its neighbouring suburbs.

Finish – Coogee beach

From the Bali memorial you can head down to Coogee beach where the walk ends. From here you can catch a bus on Arden St back into the CBD, or just relax and take in the views!
