Directions

Starting Point – Main St

The kangaroo Point walk starts on Main St at Story Bridge East (Bus Stop 6). To get there catch a bus from the city over Story bridge. From the bus stop cross Deakin St and walk eastwards down Ferry St. At the end of Ferry St turn right and walk past the Dockside Hotel.  Turn left at the hotel and continue along the Dockside Walk to the river.  At the end of Dockside Walk turn left and head along the Riverside Promenade.

From here follow the path that hugs the river in a northerly direction to Story Bridge. This vantage point will provide you with spectacular views out to New Farm on the other side of the river.

The path that hugs the river will take you to Captain Burke Park, which is located under Story Bridge. On the eastern side of the park you will pass the Vietnam Refugee memorial, which is dedicated to those who perished at sea seeking asylum in Australia during the aftermath of the the Vietnam War. At the western side of the park is the Brisbane Jazz Club, which started in the 1960’s and is a fantastic venue for lovers of jazz music in Brisbane. Continue past the Jazz Club along the path that follows the river in a southerly direction.

Further south is Kangaroo Points Cliffs Park. The cliffs are a popular recreation spot for locals, especially for climbing and running. The cliffs were used as a quarry by the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement, which opened in 1826 using convict labour. The quarry was taken over by the Queensland Government in 1864 until it was closed in 1976.
